The Muffinz
The Muffinz are a South African Afro-soul band formed in 2010. The group consists of Mthabisi “Mthae” Sibanda (acoustic guitar, vocals), Simphiwe “Simz” Kulla (lead electric guitar, vocals), Sifiso “Atomza” Buthelezi (lead electric guitar, vocals), Gregory “Keke” Mabusela (drums, vocals), and Karabo “Skabz” Moeketsi (bass, vocals).
They gained recognition after winning an open mic competition in Melville and were subsequently signed to Just Music. Their debut album, “Have You Heard?”, was released in 2012 and received critical acclaim, including a Metro FM Award for Best Group and several Sama nominations.
The Muffinz blend Afro-soul with elements of jazz, creating a unique and engaging sound. They often incorporate conscious and thought-provoking lyrics that address social issues, personal growth, and cultural identity.
The band members draw inspiration from various musical backgrounds, contributing to the diversity of their sound.
