PJ Powers

PJ Powers, born Penelope Jane Dunlop, is a legendary South African singer, songwriter, and performer best known for her powerful Afro-pop sound and socially conscious music.
Rising to fame in the 1980s as the lead vocalist of Hotline, she became one of South Africa’s most beloved artists with hits such as “Jabulani,” “Feel So Strong,” and the internationally acclaimed “World in Union” with Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Affectionately nicknamed “Thandeka,” meaning “The Loved One,” PJ Powers played an important role in promoting unity through music during and after apartheid.
Over her decades-long career, she has earned numerous gold and platinum awards, performed for world leaders including Nelson Mandela, and remains an iconic figure in South African music and humanitarian work.
