Mango Groove is one of South Africa’s most iconic Afropop bands, formed in Johannesburg in 1984.
Known for their unique fusion of marabi, kwela, township jazz, and pop music, the band rose to international fame with hits such as “Special Star,” “Dance Sum More,” and “Hometalk.”
Fronted by the charismatic Claire Johnston, Mango Groove became celebrated for blending traditional South African sounds with modern pop influences during a pivotal era in the country’s history.
Over the decades, the multi-platinum group has earned numerous music awards, performed at major international events including the Montreux Jazz Festival and Nelson Mandela’s inauguration celebrations, and remains one of South Africa’s most beloved and influential bands.
