The Soweto String Quartet (SSQ) is a globally acclaimed, award-winning ensemble that has been captivating audiences for over three decades. Proudly South African, the group masterfully blends classical music with the vibrant rhythms of kwela, the infectious syncopation of mbaqanga, and the soulful brass of African jazz. Since their debut in 1994, SSQ has become one of the most celebrated musical acts to emerge from South Africa. Their first album, Zebra Crossing, went platinum and catapulted them into the international spotlight. The success continued with the release of Renaissance and Millenia, featuring chart-topping tracks such as “Zebra Crossing,” “Mbube,” “Kwela,” and “Weeping.” These albums cemented the group’s place at the forefront of the music scene, leading to prestigious performances at high-profile events, including the Miss World pageant, the inaugural ceremonies of Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki, and a Gala Dinner at the Queen of Great Britain’s castle.
With a diverse discography of 10 albums, SSQ has graced nearly 100 stages across the globe, touring in the UK, USA, Australia, and more.
